Hoop Dreams is now the official charity for the 2003 season. Jeremy Ruch (our Charity Chair) along with Rachel Cleaver (who works for Hoop Dreams) are going to be heading up our fundraising efforts. I’m really excited about this, and I hope everyone is looking forward to raising money for a great cause!

As I stepped up to the plate, I couldn’t help but remember the horrifying end to the Fockers playoff run last year. Would we be able to exorcise the demons of yester-year? Would we be able to deal with a roster of 16 (sixteen!!) new players. In short: yes. It turned out we were the touch-actin-Tinactin to the fungus of the Toe Jam Sandwiches.

But no thanks to my ass. One on easy-out play, I threw a pin-point pass to a spot about 5 feet to the left of John, our first basemen. On the whole, though, the good plays outshined the lousy ones. Will came through in the clutch with a triple that brought two runners home. Nic dazzled us all with stellar infield play and third base magic.

In the end, the Fockers won 10-3, and start of the season right with a 1-0 record. And, most importantly, we rocked the X in typically (and legendary) Focker style!

Pre-season Party Thursday, April 24th

The Independence and Federal divisions are co-hosting a pre-season THIS THURSDAY at the Exchange. Kickballers should meet near the Washington Monument at 6:30pm for pick-up games.

The FREE BEER at the X starts flowing at 8pm. Indy and Federal players get in gratis, everyone else gets in for a measly $5. So bring your friends! And don’t forget, the team with the highest turnout (players AND friends) wins 5 FREE PITCHERS. So come early and come strong.
