Week 3, Win 3!!

Posted: September 28th, 2006 | Author: Carter Rabasa | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: | Comments

The hits just keep on coming! Another week, another win for the Cubanlinks fantasy football team. For the first time, my starters (McNair, Ronnie Brown, Boldin, Stallworth, Shockey, Stover, D. Jackson, Panthers) blew away my backups. So, even if I had lost, at least I made the best decisions that I could.

I beat my opponent (NY or Bust) by only 2 points or so. Another squeaker, against a good team that inexplicably started Julius Jones, despite his team (Cowboys) being on a bye. Thanks, dumbass!

Anyway, here are my totally arbitrary Power Rankings:

  1. Tinkle Faires
  2. Cubanlinks (moving on up!)
  3. Timmy Smash!!
  4. Rosa92Slim! (impressive scoring output)
  5. Fear the Turtle
  6. NY or Bust (he was the baddest dude around… till I showed up)
  7. Abramoff’s Revenge (poo poo)
  8. Dan Turner
  9. Alabama Black Snakes
  10. Go Skins (think this is a fantasy Premier League)

My Toast

This is my toast from Will and Neela’s wedding. If I seem like I’m searching for the right words, it’s because I had no notes. :)

Bash at the Boathouse!

This was my third consecutive year going to the Bash at the Boathouse (which I believe is now in its 7th year). Honestly, my head is still buzzing from all the caffeine, alcohol, poker and cigarettes from the (long) weekend.

But, my pics are up now, and they tell much of the story. I’ll leave the detailed write-ups to those who are more capable.

Some quick hits:

  • Thanks to Gavin Smith for a) coming out in the first place b) helping to raise so much money and c) being a cool fucking guy and huge Killers fan.
  • Thanks to Joaquin, not just for talking me into driving myself and other people back to hotel Saturday night after almost drinking myself to death, but for having us stop at Wawa along the way. Brilliant!
  • Thanks to F-Train and Joe Speaker for putting me up over the weekend.
  • Thanks to Al, Eva, and Big Mike for everything!

Updates

Singing to the Killers, slowly killing BadBlood

More Killers karaoke!

Holy shit. did I forget to mention that I finished 2nd in the Blogger Tourney that BG set-up Friday night? In fact, second doesn’t do me justice. I was heads-up with Steve for the whole kit-and-kaboodle. He had me outchipped 2-to-1, but I was feeling good. 2nd got paid $200 while 1st won $450. But then Gavin swooped in and offered me $250 for my chips. Since I knew Gavin would be giving his “winnings” to charity, I felt my $250 cash + his $200 prize to charity was greater than a shot at winning the whole thing.

I would be remiss not to mention that my run through the tournament was almost entirely powered by the lucky FullTilt card protector that BadBlood gave me. See, these are the kind of people that make the trip so worthwhile. Salt of the earth, man.

Week 2, Win 2!

Posted: September 19th, 2006 | Author: Carter Rabasa | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: | Comments

Win number two was a squeaker: 74.05 vs 74 against Dan Turner is My Shorter Uglier Brother. Thank god for fractional scoring. As CMiller points out, I made the wrong choice of starters vs. bench at virtually every position. My bench scored 93 points. And yet I somehow won. Better to be lucky than good!

Current Power Rankings

  1. Fear the Turtle (very complete team, top to bottom)
  2. Timmy Smash!! (liabilites: T.O., Randle-El, Trent Green, list goes on…)
  3. Tinkle Fairies (carried by McNabb)
  4. Cubanlinks (too much depth, not enough playmakers)
  5. NY or Bust (really bad week 2)
  6. GoSkins (Chester Taylor is the #5 ranked RB. Shoot me)
  7. Rosa92Slim! (good week 2 win)
  8. Dan Turner (losing with Peyton Manning)
  9. Abramoff’s Revenge (focused on too many other FF leagues)
  10. Alabama Black Snakes (apparently quit the league. sore loser!)

Week 1, Win 1

Well, my fantasy football team got their first win this past weekend, 85.4 to 55.75 versus the Alabama Black Snakes. My score total ranked 4th out of 10 teams, which is not good given that half the league is run by auto-drafting zombie owners. The team I played freaking started Steve Smith for pete’s sake. Here’s a breakdown:

Owners With a Pulse

  1. NY or Bust (point leader, great draft)
  2. Timmy Smash!!! (LT, Bush, Eli & TO)
  3. Tinkle Fairies (well-rounded)
  4. me
  5. Fear the Turtle (good/great bench)
  6. Dan Turner is my shorter uglier brother (underperforming)

League Detritus

  1. GoSkins (too busy consulting)
  2. Abramoff’s Revenge (mediocrity personified)
  3. Hogan! (started T.J. Whosyourmama)
  4. Alabama Black Snakes (started Steve Smith, derrr)

Fantasy Football!

I’m back… ba-BY!

I had given up fantasy football a year ago. I sought to de-clutter my life, and felt that giving a rat’s ass about some second-string running back for an AFC West team simply wasn’t a good use of my time. Worse, I found myself rooting against the best interests of the Redskins, in complicated ways where I fooled myself into thinking I could root for the offensive success of opposing players and yet still root for the overall success of my Skins. This proved to be asking too much.

But I’m back, drawn by the competition, the fun, and most of all, the trash-talk. I joined a free league being commished by my buddy CMiller, and plan on dominating purely for bragging rights. I will now live-blog my draft. Try not to be dazzled by my brilliance.

  1. Larry Johnson (RB)
  2. Ronnie Brown (RB)
  3. Anquan Boldin (WR)
  4. Jeremy Shockey (TE)
  5. Darrell Jackson (WR)
  6. Drew Bledsoe (QB)
  7. Corey Dillon (RB)
  8. John Kasay (K)
  9. Carolina Panthers (D)
  10. Matt Jones (WR)
  11. Steve McNair (QB)
  12. Donte Stallworth (WR)
  13. Dallas Clark (TE)
  14. Atlanta Falcons (D)
  15. Matt Stover (K)
