$705.00 Down, $403.00 to Go!

Posted: June 26th, 2003 | Author: Carter Rabasa | Filed under: Uncategorized | Comments

Just passing along a note from Anna. We’re really close to doing something very special for a great girl, so if you’d like to help out, please see the note below. It isn’t very often that we have a chance to do something charitable that has an immediate and measurable impact on a particular person’s life.

Hi everyone! Hope this email finds you all well.
Just wanted to pass along some information about the progress i am making
in my attempt to get Helen (my Moldovan student) to college.

Good News: To date, I’ve collected $705.00

Bad News: We still need $403.00

If you haven’t gotten around to mailing me a check, but you still want to
contribute, please do so as soon as possible. As you will see from Helen’s
email below, the American University in Bulgaria has an office here in DC,
so i will just be mailing them a check at the end of next month.

Again, My address is: 800 North Wayne, Apt. 302
Arlington, Va. 22201

Helen is very excited about this, and i really would love to see this
happen. Your support is crutial; but it is appreciated more than you
could imagine. Thank you so much.

Anna

Chesapeake, What a Town

Posted: June 26th, 2003 | Author: Carter Rabasa | Filed under: Uncategorized | Comments

I’m posting this from my hotel room at the Comfort Suites in Chesapeake, Va. For those of you not in the know, I’m working down here Tues-Fri for the next month and a half. They just got broadband installed in the rooms, thank god.

Despite my bitching and moaning about coming down here, things are going pretty well. I’m being productive at work, and have a lot of free time to myself. Since I’ve been down here, I’ve decided to take up jogging after work. I run with my co-worker BCar, and so far we’ve been running 2-3 miles three times a week. Today’s run was a killer, seeing as how it’s 93 degrees in the shade. :)

Not much else going on. Still agonizing over grad school. When to go, where to go, what to go for. So what else is new…

Burrito Lady Song

Posted: June 25th, 2003 | Author: Carter Rabasa | Filed under: Uncategorized | Comments

There mysterious :) left a comment that really left me (and other people) wondering: burrito lady song?? So, I hunted around, and it turns out that there is a new commercial being played on the radio for Chipotle (the burrito chain owned by McDonalds) that features some annoying lady singing about burritos. I’ve hunted around for some text or an mp3, but to no avail. If you’ve heard this ad, comment below with some details!

Sunil’s Worst Nightmare: A Housing Bubble

Posted: June 2nd, 2003 | Author: Carter Rabasa | Filed under: Uncategorized | Comments

Articles like this crystalize my thinking about the housing market. Oddly enough, the following blurb about rental prices struck the strongest chord with me:

Home prices are not listed in the Financial Times, but the same sort of valuation analysis can be applied to houses as to shares. The price you pay for a property should reflect the future rent at which you could let it (emphasis mine). The fact that in many countries prices of homes and commercial buildings have been rising much faster than rents should be rining alarm bells.

Adios, Mi Amigo

Posted: June 2nd, 2003 | Author: Carter Rabasa | Filed under: Uncategorized | Comments

My boy Will is on his way out. First to China, and then to a place infinitely more terrifying and fraught with risk: Law School. Yes, the Will we know and love, in one way (SARS) or another (Corporate Law) is dying. So, what better way to send him off than to gather all of his friends together at his favorite bar, and have the entire night DJ’d by none other than Brown Sugar himself? So a month of planning later, and the bash went down this past Saturday.

I’d like to thank everyone who came out Saturday night! I especially want to thank everyone who helped put this together: Lamont, Heather, Greg and Millie and Al’s. I hope everyone had a good time, I know Will and I did. :)

But wait, there’s more! I didn’t actually take any pictures myself, but Elissa did and you can find a batch of them here. If you happened to take any pics, and would like to share them with everyone else, please send them to me and I’ll put them up.

All and all, it was a bittersweet night. Not having Will in DC with me is going to be like losing an arm. A tag-team of frighteningly poor singing and worse pick-up lines is being broken up. I’ll miss you, Will.
