Hoop Dreams is now the official charity for the 2003 season. Jeremy Ruch (our Charity Chair) along with Rachel Cleaver (who works for Hoop Dreams) are going to be heading up our fundraising efforts. I’m really excited about this, and I hope everyone is looking forward to raising money for a great cause!
As I stepped up to the plate, I couldn’t help but remember the horrifying end to the Fockers playoff run last year. Would we be able to exorcise the demons of yester-year? Would we be able to deal with a roster of 16 (sixteen!!) new players. In short: yes. It turned out we were the touch-actin-Tinactin to the fungus of the Toe Jam Sandwiches.
But no thanks to my ass. One on easy-out play, I threw a pin-point pass to a spot about 5 feet to the left of John, our first basemen. On the whole, though, the good plays outshined the lousy ones. Will came through in the clutch with a triple that brought two runners home. Nic dazzled us all with stellar infield play and third base magic.
In the end, the Fockers won 10-3, and start of the season right with a 1-0 record. And, most importantly, we rocked the X in typically (and legendary) Focker style!
Yesterday my friend T and the love of her life tied the knot outside on a beautiful, sunny April afternoon. It was an inter-faith marriage, so there was a combination of Jewish and Christian traditions present that made for a very interesting ceremony.
Of course, what made the day was the look on T’s face. She couldn’t have been happier, and I really wish I had been able to capture that on film. Here’s to a lifetime of happiness for T and Nate!
Once again, The Fockers dominate a turn-out contest. Our strong numbers at last night’s pre-season party have garnered us 5 free pitchers which we will cash in at our next happy hour this coming Monday. Congratulations!
So, I’d have to say that last night’s pre-season kickball party, hosted by the Indy and Federal divisions, was an unqualified success. Ben came up with an apt way to describe the party: 50 in 15. That’s 50 pitchers of beer in 15 minutes. That’s how quickly we destroyed our tab. Pretty scary. For those of you who should up late, I’m sorry, but I guess it doesn’t pay to be fashionably late.
Anyway, don’t take my word for it. Pictures have been posted. Also, I want to thank the guy who waited on us last night, who I’m standing with in the final picture. His name escapes me, but if anyone knows it, shoot me an email. This guy was super energetic, enthusiastic, and made a lot of people’s nights.
Finally, huge thanks go out to Cindy (Indy’s Social chair), Diana (Federal’s Social chair), and Ben (Federal’s prez). They all worked their asses off to put this together.
Four students have died at William and Mary this year. The most recent of which was Alex Reyno, who died while jumping in to the Crim Dell. My friend Josh sent me this link to an article in the Washington Post. This has been a rough year for students at my alma mater, and my heart goes out to them.
Here’s a sneak preview of a Diane Sawyer interview with the Dixie Chicks regarding the disparaging remarks they made about the President during a show in London.
The Independence and Federal divisions are co-hosting a pre-season THIS THURSDAY at the Exchange. Kickballers should meet near the Washington Monument at 6:30pm for pick-up games.
The FREE BEER at the X starts flowing at 8pm. Indy and Federal players get in gratis, everyone else gets in for a measly $5. So bring your friends! And don’t forget, the team with the highest turnout (players AND friends) wins 5 FREE PITCHERS. So come early and come strong.
